Amanda Holly Reveals How Her Passion For Music and Entertainment Influences Culture.

How I Define Success

As an artist, singer and influencer of music entertainment, I would define success as living a life of passion and steadily walking in one's purpose - no matter the outcome or how much the odds are stacked against you.  Success doesn’t have to mean that everything is perfect, only that we are continuing to share our innate gifts with the world and living our personal truths. For an artist like myself, it’s about creating and sharing what comes through me with those who need to hear my songs the most, whilst, perhaps for an entrepreneur it is about innovation and bringing new ideas to the world.

Personally, I strive to be a part of a massive and positive shift in our crazy world, by  contributing whatever love, light and soul, possible through my music. This is my biggest motivation and the feeling I’ve had since birth - is to be a vessel for music and to transcend love in this way.

I feel like my passion has been carrying me since the day I was born. Without the gift of music and performance I wouldn’t have survived my life, let alone achieved so many milestones that I could have only dreamed of as a little girl back in Newark.  Because of this, I feel so thankful and blessed each and every day that I get  to live and share my art with others. My prayer is for me to be to others, what music has been for me, all of my life. This is just who I am!

Exclusive Interview with Amanda Holley

_By: Cassandra Tindal / Womenz Straight Talk Magazine

Following your dreams,  a brutal awakening: Like so many of us, my life has been anything but conventional. I’ve survived so much from birth up until now. Music has always been my driving force - the thing that keeps me going In following my purpose, I was confronted with  a brutal awakening - when i realized that the same darkness I had been battling since childhood was so deeply embedded in the entertainment  industry - especially for minority females (I’m African American, Cherokee Native, and Italian).

However, for every obstacle that came my way, every abuse, every inconceivable pain, the Creator would send me an angel who would guide me to the next level. Throughout the process I have learned that every time I hold fast to my integrity - in the face of abuse or temptation, the music would only get stronger, and I begin to shed the toxic people of the industry from my life, rather than becoming victimized by them. The disillusionment - and devastation - has become a learning curve for me. I use that experience as fuel to keep pushing through - that way I can help create a kinder and more beautiful environment for other talented souls who follow me.

Becoming the best version of myself: To become the best personal version of myself, I am always striving to give 300% of me each and every day. It’s not easy, especially when I  get knocked down, but holding to my convictions has never failed me. I need to be able to look myself in the mirror and know that I am being the force for love and soul that I was meant to be.

Impacting and influencing today’s culture: I really enjoy following many amazing influential people and friends of mine. Although I love the culture, I’m really a dorky musician - a singer, songwriter, actress, prose writing musician who happens to love people and want to be a part of spreading more happiness in the world.  In sharing my music I’ve learned to be more open and vulnerable, to power through my inner anxieties and fears due to past experience of trauma. Now I'm sharing things that I would have otherwise kept hidden. I really strive to be as true as I can on social media and not be too concerned with numbers and trends, and always staying focused on my soul mission with the spotlight on my art, and hopefully be there to inspire others.

Mostly, I’ve learned to surrender to a higher purpose and walk in faith through all the confusion and darkness.

What has the business taught me about building my own brand? What’s crucial in this business is learning to trust and hold tight to your own vision, and  allowing myself to accept help from those around me, those I trust. Learning to weed out toxic people and not being afraid to say ‘no’ to the things that don’t sit well with my inner spirit is necessary. I’m learning to search deeper into my own desires and objectives. In that way, my whole entire team can be focused on the same principles and goals. Mostly, I’ve learned to surrender to a higher purpose and walk in faith through all the confusion and darkness. Having an amazing team, along with my incredible fans, are the most vital aspects of building the success I've achieved to this point. They are the reason I am able to live my art, and create and share the music that the Creator has given me. They are my family!

What does every woman need to know if they want to win? I would say to my sisters out there that we are more powerful than we realize. The precious God-given gifts inside of us are meant to share, do, and be. We have to hold tight to our integrity, and be there for one another to uplift and empower In order to win. When we help one another, we create a world that is much better for us as females and, together, become unstoppable.

Identify your unique brand message, and why is it important in today’s culture? Coming from a traumatic background, music has literally saved my life. The power of music has kept me going every moment of everyday, emotionally, spiritually and physically. Art is such a powerful medium. Music and love are some of the most powerful forces in the universe. It has the power to unite us - rather than divide.

The importance of exemplifying positive leadership into your brand’s message. My music is deeply connected to the love, passion and the soul of humanity - as a whole. I believe in my listeners - in every soul on this planet - and in us as a species.  I want to make the world a better place for children and let them know they each have a special gift placed inside of them, a gift from the Creator. This is at the forefront of my mission. I am music. I always have been - always will be - and what I intend to do with this music and platform is so much bigger than myself.

Having confidence to share your passion, talent and ideas with the world. It is always gratifying to know that your songs have the power to touch someone in a special way. After performing people would come up to me and say something inside of them changed, and that my voice somehow touched their soul. It’s moments like this that encourages me to keep going strong.

My biggest role models: I have learned so much from many phenomenal artists and incredible leaders, including my own ancestors who fought for civil rights, and the right to share their music and love with the world. I’ve learned to persevere and walk in faith despite any obstacles or difficult circumstances.

Facing challenges to succeed: This industry is faced with many challenges, but being steadfast to your authentic voice as an artist and life’s purpose is rewarding to say the least. Personally, I’d rather fail than compromise my soul and mission. Thankfully, we are winning and reaching the public but it takes a strong will to walk away from the easy road. Also I would say: to each his own! But, you have to know your boundaries and stay committed to your vision.

“Most Exciting Year 2023”

I’m extremely humbled and thankful that my song Ride or Die is currently on the First Round Grammy® ballot for consideration for BEST R&B PERFORMANCE & BEST R&B SONG! I am also excited to be a New Grammy Voting Member. Achieving airplay on various radio stations at iHeart, Dash, Cumulus, etc. this year, as well as dozens of music TV networks, has been amazing along with appearing in my first SAG film coming soon along with many new exciting projects.

What’s next? I am so thankful and blown away by every single one of these moments, whether it was performing my own songs at Carnegie Hall, United Nations, Birdland, New York Fashion Week, LAFW, and dozens of prestigious venues, as well as writing and performing the title track of a Major Motion picture on SHOWTIME, or starring in a reality TV show that is airing soon. Every time something big happens, it feels so surreal to me! It’s beyond incredible to now be on Sony Music after releasing music at another great company (Warner Bros.) and to be working with numerous Grammy, Oscar, Emmy, Tony, and Billboard charting producers, co-writers, and artists as well as some amazing up-and-coming collaborators!

Whether it’s been getting published by Columbia Press for my poetry as a kid, having a Number One internet radio Charting Single, appearing on the GRAMMY Ballot in two categories this year, studying with Juilliard teachers as a child, being featured on multiple nationally distributed magazine covers, featured in Ebony magazine and on stations on iHeartRadio, Cumulus, DASH, and CBS Radio, along with MTV . . . performing at Sony Hall, COACHELLA Official events . . . opening for Wale or performing over a dozen times off Broadway and becoming an Actor’s Equity Association Member. Every milestone has been unreal to me!
